Planned Giving

Your Legacy Will Support the Climb

Planned giving, also known as gift planning, deferred giving, or legacy giving, is a thoughtful enduring means to support rural and tribal citizen leaders by funding Hopa Mountain’s programs. Citizen leaders, adults, and youth who are improving education, ecological health, and economic development will benefit from your impact for years to come.

Bequest

Think about designating a gift or portion of your estate to the Hopa Mountain endowment. A gift that will cost you nothing during your lifetime, a charitable bequest is a simple way to ensure that we can continue Hopa Mountain’s mission in the years to come.

Sample bequest language: I give to Hopa Mountain, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 234 E Babcock St Ste E, Bozeman, Montana 59715 (written amount or percentage of the estate of description of property) for unrestricted use and purpose.

Real Estate

Consider giving Hopa Mountain real estate. A gift of real estate helps us continue our work for years to come and helps you as well. When you give Hopa Mountain appreciated property you have held longer than one year, you qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction. You avoid paying capital gains and no longer have to deal with the property’s maintenance costs, property taxes or insurance. You may deed the property directly to Hopa Mountain, or give it to us in your will or trust.

IRA Rollover

If you are 72 years or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to benefit Hopa Mountain and receive tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as ours without having to pay income taxes on the money.

Beneficiary Designation

Want to support Hopa Mountain even after your lifetime? It is easy to do with a beneficiary designation. Just name Hopa Mountain as a beneficiary to receive assets such as retirement plans and life insurance policies after you’re gone.

Designate a Charity Gift Annuity

When you are looking for ways to help the causes you care about, you shouldn’t feel like you are choosing between your philanthropic goals and financial security. One gift that allows you to support Hopa Mountain’s mission while receiving fixed payments for life is a charitable gift annuity.

Not only does this gift provide you with regular payments AND allow us to further our work, but when you create a charitable gift annuity you can receive a variety of tax benefits. This includes a federal income tax charitable deduction and a Montana Endowment Tax Credit equal to 40% of the charitable value of your gift!

The Montana Endowment Tax Credit

The Montana Endowment Tax Credit (METC) was established in 1997 to encourage individuals, businesses and organizations to make lasting investments in their communities. This opportunity offers you a credit of 40 percent of a qualifying planned gift’s federal charitable deduction, up to a maximum of $10,000, per year, per individual, or $20,000 per year for couples filing jointly. It also allows a credit of 20 percent of a gift’s federal charitable deduction for a direct gift by a qualified business up to a maximum of $10,000 per year.
