Hopa Mountain will host a free-of-charge Human Rights Day conversation beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10 at the Bozeman Public Library. Human Rights Day presents an opportunity every year to celebrate human rights and advocate for the full enjoyment of rights for all everywhere.
Four speakers will explore the topic of human rights this year from different perspectives on the environment on December 10. From 6:00 to 6:10 p.m., Rabbi Ed Staffman will open the gathering with an introduction as we will honor our Environment and Montanans whose work represents the inalienable rights and hopes of all persons. From 6:10 to 6:40 p.m. Laura Burkle, Assistant Professor in Ecology at Montana State University will give a talk entitled “Native Bees are Wildlife, Honey Bees are Livestock: Helping Native Bees Thrive for a Healthy Environment.” From 6:40 to 7:10 p.m., EJ Porth, Communication and Outreach Director of the Gallatin Valley Land Trust, will discuss “Human Rights and the Social Determinants of Health” with a focus on conservation and trails. From 7:10 to 7:40 p.m., Paulette Epple, an avid birder and the Conservation Chair of the local Sacajawea Audubon Society, will speak about “Landscaping for Birds: How to Invite Birds to Your Backyard”
